A lot of high quality crystal is referred to as lead crystal. To greater the content of lead the higher the quality and the greater the sparkle produced by the reflected light. Crystal has to have a lead content of greater than 23% to be classed as lead Crystal. The upper limit tends to be 35% as this is generally considered to be the point were it produces the greatest possible sparkle. The visual effect of the lead content can be seen as a rainbow sparkle and is most visible when clear light bulbs are used.
