Hera 3 Pack LED Under Cupboard Light Kit - Review

Posted By: Matthew

Well here it is, our first product review on our new blog and we've picked a pretty special product to kick things off with.

We are testing and reviewing the 7.5w Hera 3 Pack LED Under Cabinet Light kit and the tests we're undertaking are real world tests

What is the build quality like, how good is the light output and how easy they are to use. We selected the white version but a satin nickel version is also available. It's also worth noting that single units are also available and you can extrend the kit up to 5 units per LED driver.

Metal Bodied under cupboard LED spots

First of all, the build quality is good, the body is metal as is the surface mount adapter.

Both feel solid and well made and the entire kit is backed up with a 5 year warranty. The warranty includes cover for LED failure but the quality of the diodes and driver is high enough that failure is extremely unlikely, although it's nice to know you're covered just in case.
Surface mounting is easy as the surface mount adapter is held in with two screws and the lights just push in to the adapters.
You can also choose to recess them by doing away with the adapter and pushing the body of the light in to a 55mm hole.

The connections are all plug and play, even the sensor simply plugs in. Plus, if you have a socket nearby then you don't even need an electrician to install these for you. If you want to have them hard wired in to your lighting circuits, then you can do so by simply removing the 3 pin plug and wiring them in directly.

PIR Sensor

The PIR sensor is small and discreet, which is prefect if you want to mount it under the cupboard with the lights. The manufacturer states that it has a 1.5m reach but in our tests if often exceeded this. The only way we feel this sensor could have been better would have been for it have some adjustments for the lux detection level and time. By default the time is set to 25 seconds, which providing you mount the sensor in an active location in your kitchen, should be more than enough time to ensure uninterrupted light while you occupy the area.

We found the light level of 480 lumen more than adequate, granted they're not the brightest option currently available but to better the light output you'll almost certainly need to look at options outside of their sub £50.00 price bracket. At the time of writing the 59855 Hera Hera 3 Pack White LED Under Cabinet Lights tested here was priced at £43.20 and the 61659 White PIR Accessory Switch was priced at £12.00 which gives great value for money.
